•HVC 5221D is a motor controller with 4 x 500 mA output that can be used for stepper, brushless (BLDC), and brushless DC motors, with 32 KB flash memory and LIN interface.
•The HVC 5222C is a 3 x 1 A controller that can be used for BLDC or BDC motors, with 32 KB flash memory and LIN interface.
TDK Corporation (Tokyo Stock Exchange number: 6762) has further expanded its subsidiary Micronas‘ embedded motor controller product portfolio and launched the new HVC 5x series Programmable System on Chip (SOC) motor controller products for driving small stepper, brushless (BDC), and brushless (BLDC) DC motors in automotive and industrial applications. The new HVC 5x series is further optimized for applications based on the current HVC 4x series, providing a "one piece" motor control solution for stepper, BLDC, and BDC motors. The new HVC 5221D and HVC 5222C are paired with specific motor types to achieve lower costs and smaller packaging. Samples are now available and production is planned for early 2024.
Following the HVC 4x series, TDK has launched two HVC 5x series products, further enriching its intelligent actuator motor control solutions and focusing on thermal management systems for electric and hybrid vehicles. HVC 5221D contains four motor terminals, each with a peak current of 500 mA, suitable for stepper and DC motors in expansion valves and water valves. The HVC 5222C contains three motor terminals that can carry a phase current of up to 1 A, suitable for brushless motors with intake grilles and small fans* Both controllers contain 7 universal I/O ports and various automotive diagnostic and safety functions, and are packaged in a small 24 pin QFN package. The HVC 5x series controller is fully pin compatible for easy design and expansion.
The commonalities between the HVC 4x and HVC 5x series are as follows:
• 32-bit ARM ® Cortex ®- M3 CPU Core • 20 MHz system and 35 kHz watchdog oscillator
• Optional 32k or 64k flash memory, 2k or 4k SRAM
•12 bit 1 µ s ADC, supporting multiple measurement functions
•Digital peripheral device, supporting motor control algorithms
• LIN transceiver and UART for communication, which can be automatically addressed using the BSM method**
• Passed AEC-Q100 Automotive Parts Working Temperature Level 1 Certification
In addition, the HVC 4x series and HVC 5x series are purchased from different wafer factories to improve our supply elasticity for customer delivery.
