STMicroelectronics released an eight output high side switch product series. The new product has current isolation and protection diagnosis functions, and the conduction resistance RDS (on) is less than 260m Ω, which can improve the application‘s variability resistance, energy efficiency, reliability, and fault recovery ability.
The newly released eight way output switches ISO808, ISO808A, ISO808-1, and ISO808A-1 can drive all types of single side grounded industrial loads, such as capacitive loads, resistive loads, and inductive loads. Typical use cases are Programmable logic controller (PLC), industrial PC and computer numerical control (CNC) machines, especially intelligent factory sensitive electronic equipment that needs to isolate current to enhance protection function.
ISO808 and ISO808A have a current limit of 0.7A, while ISO808-1 and ISO808A-1 have a current limit of 1A. Each output of ISO808 and ISO808-1 has a separate input pin, which can directly control or synchronize switch operations while driving all output pins. ISO808A and ISO808A-1 have serial SPI input pins and open drain power normal (Pgood) indicator pins for easy system management. All products in the series have a dedicated fault indicator pin.
Each output has a separate overload protection mechanism, so that channels without overload can continue to operate normally. The protection mechanism detects overload events by monitoring channel temperature and shell temperature. When overload is detected, the channel is closed, and then the channel automatically reopens to quickly restore to normal state, minimizing the intervention of the main controller. If the fault persists, the channel will close again. The control side power rails (VDD) and processing side (VCC) power rails have grounding circuit protection, reverse polarity protection, short circuit protection, shell thermal protection, and undervoltage shutdown functions. On both sides of the isolation barrier, data is transmitted through radio frequency to maximize noise resistance. Internal logic circuit load reports any data errors. If the control side power supply voltage is lost, the watchdog ensures that the output power of the processing stage is safe.
The performance and characteristics of these switches help industrial applications comply with applicable international standards, including electrostatic discharge (ESD), electrical transients, and power frequency magnetic field immunity in accordance with IEC 61000 specifications, UL1577 and UL508 isolation specifications, and VDE 0844-11 safety limits.
In addition to being compatible with the switch pins of other hot brands in the market, STMicroelectronics‘s ISO808 series has additional advantages, such as lower on resistance of RDS (on) and good power supply pins of SPI input products.
The ISO808 series has a huge development ecosystem and has more advantages compared to other brand products. Four X-NUCLEO industrial digital output expansion boards (X-NUCLEO-OUT11A1, OUT12A1, OUT13A1, and OUT14A1), combined with the STM32 Nucleo development board, can accelerate device applicability evaluation, while the graphical interface application software STSW-IFAPGUI can simplify device configuration and control.
The ISO808 series is now available in PowerSO36 packaging.
