The HVLED101 flyback controller of STMicroelectronics is applicable to LED lamps up to 180W. It integrates various functions, patented control technology and primary detection voltage stabilization support, which helps to improve the lighting performance and simplify the circuit design of lamps.
HVLED101 is a new member of STMicroelectronics‘s HVLED series high power factor controller. The integrated 800V startup circuit can shorten the LED lighting time to less than 250ms. When the mains voltage fluctuates, the high-voltage input detection circuit and maximum power control (MPC) engine ensure stable power output, allowing designers to choose smaller and lower cost external passive components to handle harsh mains conditions. The primary detection and voltage stabilization without isolation feedback further reduces material costs and improves the reliability of the driving circuit.
The input current shaping algorithm of STMicroelectronics is a patented innovative technology, which can reduce Total harmonic distortion (THD) and maximally correct power factor. In addition, HVLED101 is the first high power factor flyback converter controller that adopts the wave valley locking technology newly developed by STMicroelectronics, which can minimize audible noise, improve voltage stabilization performance and reduce Total harmonic distortion. In the stable state of quasi resonant operation, the valley locking method locks the number of skipped valleys until there is a significant change in output power or input voltage. Even under medium to low load conditions, current shaping combined with valley locking can still improve power factor and THD distortion. The flyback converter controlled by HVLED101 has a full load THD of 5% and a 1/3 load of 10%, which conforms to the world‘s major Ecological design specifications.
In addition, in pure quasi resonant operation mode, designers can use external resistors to set the delay time after zero crossing detection. By ensuring gate conduction at the lowest point of the trough, HVLED101 can minimize energy loss and electromagnetic radiation (EMI). Overall, HVLED101 achieves a maximum energy efficiency of over 90% for the converter and a no-load power of less than 100mW.
The controller is equipped with all necessary protection functions, including overcurrent protection, input overvoltage protection, and power failure protection. The Intelligent Automatic Overload Timer (ART) allows all protection mechanisms to operate without latch, ensuring excellent reliability and user experience of the lighting.
To help developers speed up the development cycle and shorten the time to market of terminal products, STMicroelectronics provides two HVLED101 function demonstration boards. EVLHV101PSR50W is a 90-265VAC, 60V/0.8A primary detection voltage stabilization isolation flyback converter, while EVLHV101SSR50W and EVLHV101PSR50W have the same design, with the difference being secondary detection voltage stabilization.
HVLED101 adopts a narrow SO-14N packaging and is now in mass production.
