On May 22nd, according to a report by Vietnam News Agency, Marvell, a major chip design company in the United States, announced the establishment of a chip research and development center in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam by upgrading its subsidiary.
According to the report, Marvell‘s Vietnamese subsidiary currently has about 300 employees, of which 97% are engineers. Through this upgrade, Marvell‘s Vietnamese R&D center, along with the R&D centers in the United States, India, and Israel, will become the four major R&D centers of Marvell Group worldwide.
It is reported that Marvell Vietnam R&D Center will focus on developing and researching the most advanced integrated circuit technology, and will also serve as a venue for Vietnamese technical engineers to hone their professional skills. Marvell promises to strive to attract outstanding technical talents for the center, and contribute to the development of employment opportunities, career development, and high-value microchip ecosystems in Vietnam.
In order to meet the talent needs of the design center, Marvell plans to invest in developing the basic technical skills of talents in the Vietnam region through the newly established Marvell Excellence Scholarship Program - Vietnam. This project will support talented students to pursue engineering and computer science degrees at selected universities in Vietnam.
In addition, through the Marvell Scholarship Program, the company hopes to increase the representation of female labor at various levels and roles, and to enhance diversity by recruiting from low-income communities.
Dr. Loi Nguyen, Executive Vice President of Marvell Fiber Optic and Copper Connection Group, said, "One of the main challenges in the global semiconductor industry is the shortage of research and engineering, which is a huge opportunity for aspiring Vietnamese technology talents. Establishing a Marvell R&D center in Vietnam is an important step in bridging this talent gap and promoting the development of the Vietnamese semiconductor industry
Dr. Nguyen added, "Marvell is committed to attracting the best and brightest engineering talents to its semiconductor design center in Vietnam and adding high-value semiconductor work, careers, and ecosystems to the country
According to the data, Marvell, founded in 1995 and headquartered in Silicon Valley, has R&D centers in Shanghai, Nanjing, Chengdu and Beijing, China. Marvell is a world leading semiconductor manufacturer that provides a full range of broadband communication and storage solutions. It focuses on the storage and broadband data network market and engages in mixed signal and digital signal processing integrated circuit design, development and supply. According to the revenue ranking report of the top ten global IC design companies in the fourth quarter of 2022 released by TrendForce Consulting, Meiman ranks sixth globally.
It is worth mentioning that Marvell had R&D centers in Shanghai, Nanjing, Chengdu, and Beijing, China. The Shanghai R&D center had more than 800 R&D personnel and was also the third largest R&D center after the US headquarters and Israel. However, in October last year, Marvell announced the layoffs of a large portion of its Chinese R&D team, and in March this year, it was further laid off. All Chinese R&D teams were laid off, leaving no one.
