TSMC Wei Zhejia: the development progress of 3-nm process is in line with expectations and will be mass produced in the second half of the year

    Wei Zhejia pointed out that the 3nm process will be mainly used in the field of high-efficiency application computing and smart phones. It is expected that 3nm will be another large-scale generation process after 5nm. Wei Zhejia said that due to the strong demand of special processes such as image sensors and non-volatile memory, TSMC will expand its capacity of 28 nm in mainland China, Japan and Chinese mainland Taiwan.

In the fourth quarter, TSMC had accumulated $8 billion in customer advances. He also pointed out that TSMC‘s capital expenditure was US $30 billion last year and plans to be US $40 billion to US $44 billion this year, of which 70% include advanced processes such as 2 nm, about 10% are used for masks and advanced packaging, and the rest are mature process investments.
