In the past year, the global memory chip market experienced a bottoming out after the "severe cold", and the storage market began to pick up gradually in the second half of last year. Looking at South Korea in global storage, Aijiwei interprets the export situation of Korean memory chips in detail through data, analyzes the market trend of memory chips, and publishes "Korea Semiconductor Customs Import and Export-Memory Chip Export".

In 2023, Q4‘ s export volume increased year on year.
According to the data of the General Administration of Customs of Korea, from January to December 2023, the total export value of Korean memory chips was 43.894 billion US dollars, down 28.9% year-on-year; The export weight was 3,674 tons, up 0.9% year-on-year; The average price decreased by 29.6% year on year.
In December, the export value of memory chips was US$ 5.315 billion, up 56% year-on-year and 24.7% quarter-on-quarter. The export weight was 371 tons, up 13.6% year-on-year and 22.2% quarter-on-quarter. The average price increased by 37.4% year-on-year and 2% quarter-on-quarter.
From a quarterly perspective, the export volume in the fourth quarter of 2023 was US$ 13.326 billion, up 23.4% year-on-year and 20.7% quarter-on-quarter. The export weight was 951.8 tons, which was basically the same as that in the fourth quarter of 2022, up 0.3% from the previous month. The average price increased by 23.4% year-on-year and 20.3% quarter-on-quarter.
Looking back on the past four quarters, from the first quarter of 2023, the export volume has increased continuously; The export weight increased significantly in the second quarter compared with the first quarter, and fluctuated slightly after the second quarter; The average export price has been rising continuously since the second quarter.

According to the data released by the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Resources of Korea on January 1st, in December 2023, the export volume of semiconductors reached US$ 11 billion, a substantial increase of 21.8% year-on-year. South Korea‘s semiconductor exports have been declining since August 2022, but rebounded in November 2023, with an increase of 12.9%, marking an improvement after 16 months and positive growth for two consecutive months. The export of memory chips is also on the rise.
The price cycle rises and the market gradually recovers.
Judging from the export price trend of Korean memory chips in recent ten years, the weight fluctuation of export chips is relatively stable, the fluctuation of total export volume is basically proportional to the price fluctuation, and the price fluctuation changes periodically, with a change period of about 3-4 years.
As can be seen from the figure below, since the second half of 2023, the price cycle has bottomed out and export prices have gradually picked up.
According to DRAMexchange data, in recent months, the average spot price of DRAM memory chips has also stopped falling, stabilized and showed a slight upward trend.
