According to reports, BYD has confirmed its development plan in the Japanese market, with the goal of selling 30000 electric vehicles in Japan by 2025, and plans to build a sales network of 100 dealers in the same year, with an average annual sales of 300 vehicles per dealer. However, there has been no official response regarding BYD‘s development plan in the Japanese market.
In January of this year, BYD passenger cars officially entered the Japanese market, with the first batch of three models being released, namely the Yuan PLUS, Dolphin, and Seal. The Yuan PLUS was the first to be released. However, from the current perspective, BYD‘s presence in the Japanese market is not yet strong and cannot be accepted by local consumers. According to data from the Japan Association of Automobile Sales Associations, BYD‘s monthly sales in the Japanese market have surpassed the imported brand Hyundai, but there is still a huge gap compared to Japanese brands.
At present, BYD has started to establish a large dealer network in Japan and has signed agency contracts with dealers and sellers, with approximately 50 sales outlets in Japan. At the same time, BYD also listed the brand‘s seal model as the first model to be sold in the Japanese market, with a starting price of 3.63 million yen (about 190000 RMB), an increase of nearly 36% compared to the starting price of domestic models, but still priced about 10% lower than the same size Nissan Leaf.
