On February 20, it was reported that Yoda Optoelectronics (2409) would close its LCD panel production line in Singapore before the end of this month, and its production equipment would be transferred to Taiwan, China, China, which would affect up to 500 employees.
According to the report, three senior executives of Youda disclosed to the Nikkei News that the company has notified the equipment manufacturer to transport production equipment from Singapore to Taiwan, China, and some Taiwanese employees working in the Singapore factory can choose to transfer back to Taiwan or Vietnam. Yoda is also expanding its display module production capacity in Vietnam.
Yoda officials have also confirmed this matter and stated that the Singapore base will become a stronghold for Yoda to provide smart solutions and a fortress for our operations in Southeast Asia.
This move highlights the challenges faced by the liquid crystal display (LCD) industry, with organic light-emitting diode (OLED) display technology becoming more popular in the smartphone, tablet, and laptop markets.
A person familiar with the situation told Nikkei, "They (Youda) are about to end production in Singapore, and all of our equipment will be moved back to Taiwan. Sadly, this is probably the fate of the LCD display industry."
Another source revealed that most of the devices will be relocated to the Youda Longtan factory, which is vigorously developing Apple‘s layout of microLED display technology.
