Ultrasonic sound,Audio pioneer xMEMS‘s new silicon speaker redefines the way humans experience sound

Time:2023-11-17 Views:567
The new Cypress MEMS speaker has increased its volume by 40 times in low-frequency response and will be showcased through appointment at CES 2024, with plans to start mass production by the end of 2024.
As an industry pioneer, Cypress has achieved a low-frequency sound pressure level (SPL) of>140dB, which can replace traditional, century old coil speakers in noise reduction earplugs without compromise.
The pioneer in the field of solid-state all silicon micro speakers, xMEMS Labs, today announced a revolutionary breakthrough in sound reproduction, changing the way True Wireless Stereo (TWS) earplugs in the mass market create high-quality, high-resolution sound experiences across the entire audio frequency band.
With the launch of its groundbreaking Cypress solid-state MEMS speaker, xMEMS engineers have replaced traditional pneumatic sound reproduction with the principle of ultrasonic amplitude modulation energy conversion. Ultrasonic modulation converts ultrasonic air pulses into rich, detailed, bass rich, and high fidelity sound, which will be the first comprehensive alternative to high-volume consumer grade active noise reduction (ANC) earplug micro speakers.
Mike Householder, Vice President of Market and Business Development for xMEMS, said, "Through the principle of ultrasonic amplitude modulation and transducer sound generation, xMEMS Cypress micro speakers can now officially replace traditional coil and magnet speakers for active noise reduction earplugs. Cypress maintains all the advantages of existing xMEMS speakers, while being 40 times louder at low frequencies, meeting a key requirement of ANC earplugs
How Cypress creates world-class audio experiences
Traditional coil speakers produce sound within the audible frequency range, which is inherently inefficient. Cypress utilizes the unique characteristics of MEMS, including speed, accuracy, and consistency, to produce high-resolution audio more efficiently.
Since the 1960s, ultrasonic sound has been a research topic, but it never achieved the acoustic performance required for widespread commercial applications until the release of Cypress for xMEMS.
As an air pulse generator, Cypress includes: a modulator for generating amplitude modulated ultrasound (carrier wave) that faithfully follows the expected audio signal amplitude; And a demodulator for synchronously demodulating ultrasound, transmitting sound energy to the baseband to produce the expected audible sound.
The sound envelope of ultrasonic pulses is an accurate acoustic replica of the source signal, which means that Cypress is more faithful to the original recording than current speaker technology at all frequencies. Due to its excellent temporal resolution, Cypress can more accurately reproduce today‘s advanced audio formats, including high-resolution audio and spatial audio.
Cypress not only completely changed the way sound is reproduced from electrical signals, but also redefined the way sound is reproduced, "said xMEMS CTO Jemm Liang
