The new product combines a dedicated accelerator and a high-speed 48MHz CPU to achieve the best performance in the RL78 product family
Global semiconductor solution provider Reza Electronics (TSE: 6723) today announced the addition of a new member, RL78/G24, to its popular RL78 microcontroller (MCU) series, which includes 8-bit and 16-bit products suitable for power sensitive applications. The RL78/G24 has the highest performance among all products in the RL78 series, enhanced by a flexible application accelerator (FAA) for specific applications and a high-speed CPU operating at frequencies up to 48MHz. This product also enhances peripheral functions, including simulation and timer functions, suitable for motor control, power control, and lighting control. FAA can efficiently perform tasks such as inverter control, encryption, sensing, and arithmetic operations independently of the CPU, greatly improving processing speed.
Toshihihiko Seki, Vice President of MCU Device Solution Division at Renesas, said, "We are pleased to launch higher-level products in the popular RL78 series, which currently has the highest market share in the global 16 MCU market. With a wide range of features and specifications, the RL78 series enables our customers to achieve high performance while minimizing costs
Osamu Ogura, Software Development Manager, Industrial System Development Division of TESSERA TECHNOLOGY INC, A Renesas eco system partner stated, "Generally speaking, processing is only done by the CPU core, and the CPU bears a significant burden. To achieve a balance between high-speed processing and CPU load, it takes a considerable amount of time. With the FAA function included with RL78/G24, we are able to divide communication processing between CPU and power control. This allows us to shorten the overall development time
Brian McKay, Global Strategic Partner Manager, MathWorks, stated: "Our collaboration with Reza enables developers to use model based design to improve system performance and identify issues before running on MCUs. Mutual customers can use RL78 virtual models in Simulink to achieve various functionalities, including generating production quality code, processor in loop testing, and maintaining digital threads
Key features of the RL78/G24 series
• CPU operating frequency up to 48MHz (maximum), FAA can operate independently of the CPU
• 12 bit A/D converter, capable of sampling three channels simultaneously, with a maximum conversion speed of 1 µ s
• High speed comparator with a typical delay time of 50ns
• Equipped with DALI-2 function for lighting communication standards
• Supports up to 125 ° C
• Compact packaging with minimum 3mm x 3mm packaging options
The standby function of RL78/G24 can reduce power consumption. Customers can choose between two modes: HALT mode (which reduces power consumption by 60% compared to normal operating mode) and STOP mode (which reduces power consumption by 99% compared to HALT mode). These power saving modes result in lower overall device power consumption.
development environment
Similar to other RL78 products, developers using RL78/G24 for development can easily generate driver code for peripheral functions through a graphical user interface (GUI) using Smart Configurator. Renesa also supports model based development in MATLAB/Simulink. As an evaluation environment, users can also utilize the Rapid Prototyping Board (FPB), which comes with Arduino Uno and Pmod ™ The Type 6A interface and Grove connector provide access to all pins. In addition, only one USB cable is needed to debug and program the device. Ruisa also provides evaluation kits for motor applications and power/lighting applications, which are very suitable for preliminary evaluation of individual applications.
