Omdia: It is estimated that the shipment of AMOLED display driver chips will increase by 14 year-on-year this year

On February 23, Omdia‘s latest report showed that in 2022, OLED display panel shipments were still down 6% year on year, while OLED display driver chip (DDIC) shipments were down 5% year on year.
The report points out that in 2023, with the recovery of demand for smart phones, smart watches, OLED televisions, portable computers and other products, AMOLED DDIC shipments are expected to increase by 14% year-on-year to 1.16 billion.
Omdia expects that the penetration rate of AMOLED will reach 30% of the total number of display panels in 2029, and the shipment volume of AMOLED DDIC will increase from 1 billion in 2022 to 2.2 billion in 2029, with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 12%.
Among them, smart phones are the largest application market of AMOLED DDIC. Omdia data shows that in 2022, smartphone DDIC shipments accounted for 64% of AMOLED DDIC market. Thanks to the recovery of demand for AMOLED smart phone display panel, it is expected that the shipment volume of AMOLED smart phone DDIC will increase by 12% year-on-year in 2023.
IT Home learned from Omdia report that smart watches are another important area of AMOLED DDIC market. It is estimated that the shipment volume of AMOLED smart watches DDIC will increase by 11% to 164 million in 2023.
In other aspects, OLED TV DDIC shipments are expected to achieve a year-on-year growth of 16% in 2023, reaching 144 million. Meanwhile, the shipments of OLED DDICs for tablets and laptops will reach 37 million and 58 million, up 31% and 49% respectively.
