IDC: it is expected that the sales of personal computers and tablets will decline this year and next

Time:2022-09-06 Views:1764
IDC, an analysis company, announced that due to changes in market conditions, sales of PCs and tablets are expected to decline this year and next year. It is expected that PC shipments will drop by 12.8% and tablet computers by 6.8% in 2022. The main reason for the decline is that inflation weakened the global economy, and the purchase volume surged in the past two years, resulting in smaller demand.
In addition to the decline in 2022, IDC said that these markets will shrink further in 2023. This will be due to the slowdown in consumer demand, the fact that the demand for education has been met, and the fact that enterprises are forced to buy new hardware due to the weak economic situation.
Taken together, these two sectors are expected to decline by 2.6% in 2023, and then rebound again and see growth in 2024.

Commenting on these expectations, Linn Huang of IDC said:
"As the speed of economic headwinds accelerates, we expect that the deterioration of consumer sentiment will lead to further contraction of the consumer market in the next six quarters. In the next major update cycle, the economic recovery may drive some growth in the peripheral years we forecast. Although the number will not reach the peak of the pandemic, we expect that the consumer market will develop to more high-end markets."
IDC‘s forecast for this year‘s global PC equipment shipment is 462.1 million units, down 10.8% from the previous year. In the long run, it expects shipments to start growing again, with a total of 477.7 million in 2026.
