On May 27, DIGITIMES reported that according to industry sources, Qualcomm and MediaTek both reduced their 5g smartphone chip orders with their manufacturing partners in the second half of 2022.
The source said that both Qualcomm and MediaTek provide mobile SOC to Chinese Android phone manufacturers, but their smartphone sales so far in 2022 have been disappointing.
The source pointed out that Qualcomm has reduced its supplier‘s orders for Xiaolong 8 chips by 10-15%, and plans to reduce the price of the existing Xiaolong 8 series processors by 30-40% when it starts shipping the second generation of Xiaolong 8 chips later this year.
According to the source, MediaTek has reduced its orders for entry-level and mid-range 5g chips signed with suppliers in the fourth quarter of 2022 by 30-35%.
