The difference between RC filter and LC filter

Time:2023-10-03 Views:652
The frequency range of LC filter application is 1kHz~1.5GHz. Due to the limitation of the Q value of the inductance, the cutoff region of the frequency response is not steep enough.
    1.Compared to LC filters, RC filters are easier to miniaturize or integrate, resulting in a larger relative volume of LC;
    2. RC filters have losses, while LC filters can theoretically be lossless;
    3. RC has a smaller volume and lower cost than LC;
    4. RC is used in low-frequency circuits, while LC filtering is generally used in high-frequency circuits;
    5. The resistance in RC filtering consumes a portion of the DC voltage, and R cannot be achieved significantly. It is used in circuits with low current requirements. RC has a small volume and low cost, and the filtering effect is not as good as LC circuits; LC filtering mainly has small inductance resistance, low DC loss, high inductance to AC power, and good filtering effect. Its disadvantages are large volume, bulky, and high cost. It is used in high demand power supply circuits
    6. The more filtering levels, the better the effect, but the higher the loss and cost, so it is not recommended to exceed level 3;
    7. RC filters are usually combined with operational amplifiers to form active filters, often used as filters for low-frequency signals. For example, used as a loop filter in a phase-locked loop.
