    Ams OSram has released the Open System Protocol (OSP) in 2023, and its application in automotive cabin lighting has attracted the attention of many integrated circuit (IC) and LED manufacturers.
    Tongbright Optoelectronics will adopt OSP in its next generation of smart RGB leds, which will provide critical independent certification for future-proof communication technologies;
    The Open System Protocol is an open, license-free technology for connecting RGB leds, sensors, and microcontrollers from different manufacturers.
    Shanghai, China, April 17, 2024 - AMS OSram, the world‘s leading provider of optical solutions (Swiss Stock Exchange: AMS and Malaysia‘s leading automotive LED solutions provider, TMRT, today jointly announced that they have entered into a partnership to integrate AMS OSram‘s Open System Protocol (OSP) into TMRT‘s next-generation intelligent RGB LED products developed and designed for automotive interior ambient lighting. This strategic initiative aims to increase technical compatibility and promote innovation in the field of automotive lighting by inviting more partners to participate.

    Launched in 2023 by AMS OSRAM, OSP is an open, license-free communication technology for connecting RGB leds, sensors and microcontrollers from different manufacturers. The announcement of the upcoming OSP integrated products further establishes the protocol as a universal in-car smart LED connectivity method. This key initiative enhances the supply chain resilience of automakers, enabling them to switch suppliers and sellers at will when purchasing atmospheric lighting leds and their related components without having to reconfigure system communications.
New possibilities for ambience lighting: Ambience, warning, information
    With the gradual evolution of the car cabin into the "third living space" of people‘s lives, the car atmosphere lighting system is being given a new mission. Using intelligent technology, dynamic atmosphere lighting can achieve animation effects, color changes and brightness adjustment, which is used to create atmosphere, transmit information, issue warnings and other functions, and effectively enhance the car brand recognition. Implementing these functions requires advanced intelligent RGB LED technology, as well as communication protocols that are compatible with the standard serial interfaces of various microcontrollers and transmit high-frequency control signals.
    Ams OSram has released the OSP infrastructure alongside the compatible smart RGB LED OSIRE? The E3731i demonstrates that the OSP fully meets the above functional requirements. With the addition of Tongbright Optoelectronics to the OSP ecosystem, it provides automobile manufacturers with another OSP-compatible LED option. This exciting development promotes innovation and flexibility in atmospheric lighting solutions.
OSP instance: OSIRE? E3731i
    OSIRE?  The E3731i is the industry‘s first OSP-compatible intelligent RGB LED, with an integrated ASIC (application specific integrated circuit) capable of driving three RGB transmitters. It ensures extremely high LED color uniformity by providing measurement data for automatic color calibration. This is particularly important for the long LED strip in the car cabin. OSIRE?  The E3731i supports a Daisy chain topology, requiring only two communication lines and two power cords per control chain to connect up to 1,000 LED lights, which not only simplifies the installation process, but also facilitates single-layer PCB design.
    OSIRE?  The E3731i is AEC-Q102 certified to automotive Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) standards, setting a new benchmark for smart RGB leds in the automotive industry.
    The company is proud to join the OSP ecosystem to enrich its existing seddLED product range to meet diverse customer needs. seddLED+A3H will be the first OSP-compatible smart RGB LED on the market. The company aims to develop a working prototype in the third quarter of fiscal 2024.
Looking to the future together: OSP applications
    Ams OSram and Tong Bright Optoelectronics Technology together emphasize the importance of OSP as the basis for future intelligent RGB LED architectures. Given the need for diverse sourcing in the industry, the OSP protocol simplifies and reduces the cost of LED series communication, giving automakers the freedom to choose between different suppliers without having to redesign the architecture.
    Ams OSram and Tong Bright Optoelectronics Technologies are committed to improving the compatibility of future LED and sensor products while maintaining the characteristics of their respective products. Although the need to develop formal standards for the automotive lighting industry is not yet urgent, it is still a topic worth discussing in the industry. The OSP agreement is open and free of licensing fees, encouraging more partners to join and jointly promote innovation and compatibility in the field of automotive lighting.
