On February 24, Huaian Times Core Storage in Jiangsu Province suddenly issued an announcement that the Huaiyin District People‘s Court of Huaian City ruled that the time core Storage was restructured. After the reorganization, Huaxin Jiechuang Integrated Circuit Manufacturing (Guangdong) Co., Ltd. will hold 100% of the equity of Times Core, and the fab will be transformed into a semiconductor foundry, including but not limited to DDIC, PMIC, and high reliable memory chips and RF chips.
As early as 2020, there were relevant reports on the end of the era core. Now four years later, the 12-inch wafer fab, which once planned to invest a total of 13 billion yuan and was determined to build an annual output of 100,000 pieces of phase-change memory, had to change doors to solve the debt problem. This also means that the last 12-inch wafer fab in China‘s semiconductor industry is about to be revitalized.
Public information shows that the total amount of time core storage has been executed in the past as high as 863 million yuan, and the executors mainly include equipment suppliers, factory contractors, freight companies and former employees.
Huaxin Jiechuang was established in August 2023 with a registered capital of 2 billion yuan, and the major shareholder is Zhongke Advanced (Macau) Investment Management Co., LTD. Zhao Jie, the legal person of the company, previously worked for SMIC and UMC.
It is learned that the total investment of Huaxin Jiechuang Huaian project is expected to be 20 billion yuan, and the first phase of investment is 5 billion yuan, and it is planned to achieve an annual production capacity of 200,000 12-inch wafers within three years, and an annual output of 600,000 wafers within five years.
Rotten wafer fab is a chronic disease in China‘s semiconductor industry, mainly due to blind investment and repeated construction in the past. In addition to The Times core storage, China‘s 12-inch rotten end fabs also include Wuhan Hongxin, Chengdu GF and Huaian Dehuai. These three companies have been properly disposed of before, of which Hongxin was taken over by Wuhan Chuxin, Chengdu Lattice Chip was taken over by Huali Micro Electronics, and Dehuai was taken over by Rongxin. Today, all 12-inch rotten fabs in China have been properly disposed of, which will not only have a positive impact on local industrial construction, but also help improve the overall local chip production capacity to cope with the massive chip demand that is about to explode in the AI era.
