On February 20th, according to foreign media reports such as Yonhap News Agency, the latest report released by market research company Omdia shows that Samsung continues to dominate the global television market in 2023 with a super high market share of 30.1% in terms of sales amount. Since 2006, Samsung has been the first in market share for 18 consecutive years.
It is worth noting that in the high-end TV market priced above $2500, Samsung achieved an overwhelming market share of 60.5%, an increase of 12.2 percentage points from 48.3% in 2022, mainly due to the flagship positioning of QLED TVs selling 8.31 million units in 2023. Since the launch of the first QLED TV in 2017, the cumulative sales have reached 44 million units.
However, in terms of the OLED TV market, Samsung‘s arch rival LG Electronics remains unbeatable. In 2023, LG‘s OLED TV shipments were approximately 3 million units, accounting for 53% of global shipments and being the sales champion for 11 consecutive years.
According to LG Display‘s financial report released in January this year, benefiting from the strong year-end shopping season, which boosted demand for mobile phones and televisions, the company turned a profit in the fourth quarter of 2023, with an operating profit of 132 billion Korean won (approximately 98.67 million US dollars), reversing a loss of 876 billion Korean won in the same period of 2022, marking the first time in seven quarters that it has emerged from a loss quagmire.
