Melexis launches new micro 3D magnetometers to expand performance limits

    Global microelectronics engineering company Melexis announced today that it has launched Triaxis ® Micro power magnetometer MLX90394. This is a micro sensor based on the Hall effect, which perfectly balances low noise, micro current consumption, and cost. This product has an instant selectable mode and advanced configurability, which can achieve excellent reusability and accelerate product launch. This non-contact solution is suitable for rotary, linear, and 3D joystick control in gaming and industrial peripherals.
    The MLX90394 can replace traditional mechanical solutions, providing a simpler, more flexible, and highly reliable solution, and overcoming the inherent problems of traditional potentiometers, such as surface contamination and packaging limitations of potentiometers. This magnetometer has a variety of functions and can be deployed in linear, rotating, joystick, and button operations, replacing a large number of existing components, thereby simplifying the supply chain and achieving high economic benefits. In addition, the product has high flexibility (configuration changes can be made in the future) and adopts a non-contact design, making its working life longer than potentiometers and contact switches. The MLX90394 also features an ultra-thin and compact design (2 × one point five × 0.4mm, which helps to create a more fashionable HMI.
    Compared to existing solutions in the market, the architecture of MLX90394 has multiple advantages. This design can measure and output each magnetic axis separately, and is equipped with a built-in temperature sensor to provide additional digital signal processing (DSP) compensation through selectable temperature measurements. The data output for temperature and position is 16 bit resolution, and the I2C interface pins support 0.1MHz, 0.4MHz, and 1.0MHz modes. This product has two I2C addresses inside and can be selected by changing the electrical pin connections.
    This product features Melexis‘s unique Triaxis ® Technology as the core technology, this innovative technology helps to provide low noise (<9 μ T) Independent 3-axis measurement. In the 10Hz single measurement mode, the average current consumption for X-axis or Y-axis measurements is only 4 μ A. The average current consumption measured in the Z-axis is only 5 μ A. When the microcontroller is in deep sleep mode and consumes very little, the chip‘s current consumption is less than 10 μ A. To provide assistance in reducing system power consumption. The Wake On Change (WOC) function can quickly resume operation through pulse or latch hardware pin interrupt (XYZ). The WOC threshold can be configured for initial measurement (static increment), previous measurement (dynamic increment), or predefined measurement (absolute). Therefore, in high motion applications and slow drift motion applications, the product can accurately transition from power-off mode to activation mode.
    Embedded design enables easy integration and accurate tracking of rotating joystick movements and press/slide button applications. This product offers two compact UTDFN-6 (LD) packaging designs, supporting different measurement ranges: ± 5mT (0.15 μ T/LSB and ± 50mT (1.5 μ T/LSB. All models are RoHS certified and suitable for operation in the temperature range of -40 ℃ to 105 ℃. The power supply voltage range is between 1.7V and 3.6V, making it very suitable for most embedded and IoT electronic environments.
