Renesas Electronics launches the industry‘s first programmable motor driver IC that achieves zero speed and full torque for sensorless brushless DC motors

    New technology enhances horsepower, efficiency, speed, and reliability; Simultaneously reducing costs and reducing circuit board space
    Global semiconductor solution provider Renesas Electronics (TSE: 6723) announced today that it has launched the first sensorless motor driver IC series products suitable for brushless DC (BLDC) motor applications. This series adopts Renesas‘s patented new technology, which enables motors to achieve zero speed and full torque without sensors, pioneering the entrepreneurial world. The new motor driver IC enables Reza customers to design sensorless BLDC motor systems with greater horsepower and speed at a given torque. In addition, it also reduces power consumption, improves reliability, and reduces costs and circuit board space by reducing the number of components that designers need to use.
    Renesas has released three new motor driver ICs using new technologies. Among them, RAA306012, as an independent 65V, 3-phase intelligent driver, can be paired with Renesas or various other MCUs; RAJ306101 integrates the Reza RX13T 32-bit MCU with RAA306012 in a single package, reducing circuit board space and cost, and improving reliability; RAJ306102 integrates the Reza RL78/G1F 16 bit MCU with RAA306012, bringing similar integration advantages.
    The ability to achieve full torque at zero speed without the need for sensors is thanks to Reza‘s two innovative technologies: Enhanced Inductive Sensing (EIS), which can provide stable position detection when the motor comes to a complete stop; When the motor is running at an extremely low speed, the motor rotor position recognition (MRI) method is used. At higher speeds, the new motor driver IC adopts traditional methods. The new EIS and MRI algorithms both include cutting-edge technologies developed by Renesas that are currently being patented.

    Renesas has combined the new motor driver IC with numerous compatible components in its product portfolio to create a wide range of successful product combinations, including cordless vacuum cleaners and 20V cordless blade blowers. These "successful product combinations" are based on mutually compatible and seamlessly collaborative devices, with a technically validated system architecture that brings optimized low-risk designs to accelerate product launch speed.
