Bluestone Technology has developed industry-leading voice synthesis LSI specifically for AVAS for electric vehicles

Time:2023-11-18 Views:576
By utilizing hardware configuration and GUI * 1 software, the development cycle can be significantly reduced
Blue Blue Blue Stone Technology Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "Blue Blue Stone Technology"), a subsidiary of the Rom Group, has developed a voice synthesis LSI "ML22120xx" (ML22120TB, ML22120GP) dedicated to AVAS (Vehicle Proximity Alarm System) for electric vehicles (xEVs).
In the process of promoting a carbon neutral (carbon free) society, the number of hybrid electric vehicles and pure electric vehicles (EVs) is constantly increasing. Due to the fact that these vehicles do not emit significant noise when driven by electric motors, relevant laws and regulations require these vehicles to be equipped with warning sounds that remind pedestrians to pay attention to approaching vehicles. When using a microcontroller to generate warning tones, it is necessary to control the pitch and volume of the sound to achieve a smooth gradient effect, and adjust the frequency characteristics according to the shape of the vehicle. This also greatly increases the burden of microcontroller software development and requires verification of the operation between the microcontroller and other software processing. In response to these issues, Bluestone Technology has utilized its accumulated experience and technological advantages in the field of speech synthesis LSI to achieve high audio quality through hardware configuration, and has launched new products that help alleviate the development burden of AVAS (Vehicle Approach Alarm System).
The "ML22120xx" is composed of dedicated hardware with warning sound generation function, sound gradually increasing and decreasing function, and equalizer function. In addition, by using specialized GUI software, it is easy to meet the requirements of relevant laws and regulations for volume and frequency characteristics required by AVAS * 2.
The new product is composed of hardware, and compared to products composed of microcontrollers, there is no need for software validation, which can significantly shorten the development cycle. In addition, the new product can be controlled with simple commands, and compared to the ordinary method of generating sound by a microcontroller, it can emit a warning sound in less than 1/10 of the time. In addition, the new product is also equipped with fault detection function, which can detect communication abnormalities with the main microcontroller and abnormal oscillations caused by external components, which helps to improve the reliability of the application product.
The new product has been temporarily put into mass production with a monthly production capacity of 100000 units starting from September 2023 (sample price: 1000 yen/unit, excluding tax). The ML22120TB and its evaluation board have started to be sold through e-commerce, and can be purchased through e-commerce platforms such as Ameya360 and Oneyac. The production base for the previous process is Blue Blue Blue Stone Semiconductor Miyagi Factory (Miyagi Prefecture), while the production base for the subsequent process is ROHM Integrated Systems (Thailand) Co., Ltd. (Thailand).

Glossary
    *1) GUI (Graphical User Interface)
A computer operation user interface that displays graphics and images, and can be operated using a mouse or touch screen.
    *2) Legal and regulatory provisions
The United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UN/ECE) World Forum for Harmonization of Vehicle Regulations (WP29) passed the mandatory provision of AVAS (Acoustic Vehicle Alerting System) in the "Agreement on Silent Vehicles (No. 138)". Among them, regulations are made for the volume of vehicle approaching warning tones and the frequency at specific vehicle speeds.
About RoHM
Founded in 1958, ROHM began with the production of its main product - resistors. After more than half a century of development, it has become a world-renowned semiconductor manufacturer. Rom‘s corporate philosophy is: "We always prioritize product quality.
